Dr. John Fujii was born and raised in Stockton. He is a graduate of Lincoln High School and completed his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis. He then received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Houston, College of Optometry.
Since graduating from the University of Houston, Dr. Fujii has practiced in various clinical settings. Early in his career he worked for various ophthalmologists and surgical settings. He managed their pre- and post-operative patients. He also served as the Clinical Director for Pacific Laser Eye Center until 2003. In this role, he educated optometrist and ophthalmologist on the co-management of laser vision correction, was co-editor of an co-management newsletter, tracked surgical outcomes, coordinated the opening of the center, and managed complex cases. In 2014, Dr. Fujii became Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry. A certification received after rigorous testing.
One of Dr. Fujii's mentors once said, “if you want a better world, then each of you should work to improve it.” Those words inspire Dr. Fujii’s involvement in his community. He has served ten years as a Commissioner for First Five San Joaquin. He was honored to be the Chairperson and was also appointed to the Finance, Marketing, and Paperwork Reduction subcommittees. First 5 funds numerous programs for children ages 0 to 5 in San Joaquin County and the state of California. Dr. Fujii served on the Board of the Mary Graham Children’s Shelter Foundation, in that capacity we helped raise funds to build a new shelter for foster children and then later to raise educational funds for children who have aged out of the Foster care system. Dr. Fujii has coached youth basketball teams at his church and for the YMCA. He has served on his children’s School Site Council and on the board for the Parent Teacher Student Association. Currently he serves on the Board of Directors for the Buddhist Church of Stockton, Stockton Kendo Dojo, Youth Athletic Organization, and the Stockton Chapter of the JACL. He has previously served as President for both the Buddhist Church of Stockton and the Stockton Chapter of the JACL.
Professionally, Dr. Fujii has served as the Membership Chair for the California Optometric Association and as President of the San Joaquin Optometric Society (SJOS). During his tenure, the SJOS spearheaded the ideas and the fundraising for the Eye Exhibit at the Children’s Museum of Stockton.
Dr. Fujii enjoys spending time with his family and attending his children’s athletic, music, and school events.
